e-RUPI is a digital solution to allow a cashless payment solution for COVID-19 vaccination. The digital payment solution has been developed with the support of DFS (Department of Financial Services) and NHA (National Health Authority). It is powered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
This seamless one-time payment mechanism enables users to redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app, or internet banking access at the merchants accepting UPI e-Prepaid Vouchers. The e-RUPI would be shared with the beneficiaries for a specific purpose or activity by organizations via SMS or QR code.
Why QR Code is – The Lock & Key of Digital Payments
The technology accepts unique payments from the issuers and the receiver, as the QR code is embedded with a unique code. So, consumers receive the rewards only by scanning the same QR given to the issuer and the receiver to make the payment cycle completely robust. Thus, it will only allow special transactions from the brands to their consumers.
Consider an example. If A is a known brand that rewards you for any purchase you made, the reward could only be redeemed by scanning the same QR code. Otherwise, the reward cannot be received or redeemed.
